a couple of weeks ago, i saw an article about this guy who needed a transplant, had a match in his wife, but was told by UCSF that they wouldn’t perform the surgery because there was no guarantee that he would be able to cover the costs for medical care after the transplant was performed.
the reason there was no guarantee that he could pay for further treatment was because he was fired from his job of 14 years in an immigration sweep, but is paying $1000 a month (for the next 18 months) to continue with private medical insurance through his former employer.
